About this course

What is NDA Exam?

NDA is one of the most sought after defence entrance exams in the country. NDA recruitment is conducted for admission to Army, Navy and Air Force wings of NDA and Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC). NDA is conducted twice a year. The exam is conducted two stages – written exam and SSB Interview. Around 4 lakh aspirants sit for NDA every year, out of which approximately 6000 are called for SSB Interview.

NDA Eligibility Criteria 2020

Candidates need to fulfill the following eligibility criteria in order to be eligible for the exam.

  • Age Limit: Candidates in between 16.5 to 19.5 years can apply. The date of birth is calculated as mentioned on the Matriculation or Secondary School Leaving Certificate or in a certificate recognized by an Indian University as equivalent to Matriculation.
  • Educational qualification: The educational qualification is different for different academies. Candidates can check the educational qualification prescribed for different academies below-
  • Army Wing of National Defence Academy: Candidates must have passed class 12/HSC under 10+2 pattern of school education or equivalent from a recognized board or university.
  • Air Force, Navy and Naval Academy of National Defence Academy: Candidates must have passed Class 12/HSC under 10+2 pattern of school education with Physics and Mathematics conducted by a State Education Board or a University.

NDA Dates 2020 

The dates of NDA I and II exams have been announced through UPSC calendar 2020. Candidates can check below NDA dates 2020.

NDA I Dates 2020

Written exam April 19 The written exam of NDA will be conducted on this date in two shifts – morning and afternoon across 41 cities spread throughout the country.
Admit card March NDA 1 admit card 2020 will be released online on the official website. Candidates need to enter their login credentials to download the admit card.
Declaration of written result June The result of written exam is declared in June. The result displays the roll numbers of shortlisted candidates.
SSB Interview August- September SSB Interview is conducted for the shortlisted candidates of written exam in two stages.
Final result November NDA 1 final result is announced in November. On the basis of final result, candidates are selected for admission to Army, Navy and Air Force wings of NDA and INAC.

The details regarding the vacancies are released along with the notification. A total of 418 vacancies will be filled through NDA 1 exam.

NDA Selection Process 2020

The complete process of NDA is explained below:

  • Filling the application form 

Interested candidates need to fill NDA application form online. The application fee is Rs 100 which can be paid both and offline. The commission releases the list of rejected applicants few days after the closure of application process. Besides, the examination authority also activates the link to withdraw NDA application form for a specified period. Candidates who do not wish to appear for the exam can withdraw their application form.

  • Release of admit card 

NDA admit card is released three weeks before the exam. The link to download the admit card will be available on the official website. Candidates can download the admit card by logging either with roll number or registration number. The hard copy of the admit card is not sent to candidates by post.

  • Written Exam

All the candidates who successfully registers for the exam are required to appear for the written exam. The written exam comprises two sections – Mathematics and General Ability Test. The test carries total 900 marks. Candidates who obtains the minimum qualifying marks in the written exam are called for SSB Interview. Read more on NDA exam pattern.

  • Declaration of result

NDA result is declared online in two stages – written and final. First, the result for written exam is declared followed by the declaration of final result. The result is made available in PDF format. It displays the roll numbers of qualified candidates. The mark sheet of candidates are released after declaration of final result. Candidates need to secure NDA cut off 2020 separately in written exam and SSB Interview.

  • SSB Interview

The SSB Interview is conducted for Intelligence and Personality Test. The test is conducted in two stages. All qualified candidates are put to stage 1 test on the first day of reporting at Selection Centres/Air Force Selection Boards/Naval Selection Boards. Candidates qualifying the first stage are called for the second stage exam. Those who will qualify the second stage are required to submit birth certificate and pass certificate.

  • Final Selection 

Candidates are finally selected for admission to admission to Army, Navy and Air Force wings of NDA and INAC based on their performance in written exam and SSB Interview. The final allocation will be done as per the number of vacancies subjected to candidates eligibility, medical fitness and merit-cum-preference.

NDA 2020 Exam Centres

NDA exam centres are the cities where the offline test will be conducted. Candidates need to appear for the exam in the exam centre allotted to them by the examination authority. While filling the application form, candidates need to enter their preferences of exam city. UPSC will allot exam centre to candidates as per the preferences exercised by them in the application form. However, the commission reserves the right to cancel or add exam centres. The exam will be conducted in the following cities.

NDA 2020 Exam Day Guidelines

  • Candidates should carry their NDA admit card to the exam centre
  • Along with the admit card, candidates should also carry one photo-identity proof
  • Carry clipboard or hard board and a black ball pen for marking their responses
  • Sheet for doing rough work are provided by the invigilator
  • Books, notes, loose sheets, electronic or any other type of calculators, mathematical and drawing instruments, log tables, stencils of maps, slide rules, test booklets and rough sheets are not allowed inside the examination centre
  • Misconduct during exam is not entertained and serious actions will be taken against the candidates doing the same
  • Strict action is taken against those candidates found copying or cheating
